Some remember the year of 2012 to be the one where the world might've ended.
For me, it's the year that set me onto a path that dramatically influenced and continues to influence the way I live my life.

Proof is in the picture above! I am/was selena13524.
At the time, I was just an 12 year old girl who enjoyed playing computer games while my mom often slept due to her night shifts as a nurse. I was a kid that enjoyed watching the Legend of Korra series and had some friends that made a game out of it.
I wanted to help them, so I took my first venture into the "scripting" tools within Roblox Studio. They needed someone to create a "goeey" - a GUI. 👀 I don't know if I even knew what it stood for at the time. I've seen these "goeeys" before in other games, and I knew the purpose it had to serve, but I had no idea how to make one. I just told my friends I'd do it, with quite a lot of determination.
<aside> 💡 It started there unknowingly, yet with good intentions. Haphazardly, yet resolutely.

Without having ever looked at the documentation provided by Roblox (I didn't even know of its existence!), I found examples of the features I needed for the GUI within the free model library and attempted to mash them all into one script. Through trial and error, I found out where to plug in different pieces of code and adjust the variables to match the element locations within my own model.
However, as one would expect, trial and error could only go so far. 😅 I learned to take full advantage of Google and found that the Roblox Studio docs were truly a gem full of examples and exhaustive lists of properties. Through my upgraded 📈 resourcefulness, I managed to design the visual aspect of the GUI to my liking (at the time, of course!). It was an extremely basic design, though I definitely try to give 11-year old me some credit.
My kind friends were happy with my work, and the multiple days of figuring out how to complete the task and dealing with bugs and general confusion were made way worth it. ✨
